+ Yesterday picked up almost two full cases of 16oz bottles for free on Craigslist!
+ Made a freaking awesome beef roast last night. Carnivores, pick up this book, from one of the guys behind the East Coast Grill. Enough for sandwiches this entire week.
+ Made enough pumpkin pancakes for a whole week, too! Thanks to
trunkbutt for the recipe.
- Got hit with $750 of unexpected doctor bills!
+ Went homebrew shopping with father-in-law.
+ Enemies spanked by judicial system!
- GreenCine sent the bonus disc for a movie before the movie itself! And now they won't send me anything!
+ Back from London to my wife's embrace without too much jet lag.
+ Real ale and English pub food. Even in the airport.
- London prices on anything.
- Working on shortstaffed project.
- Not having enough time to see everyone in London I wanted to see.
+ Going to a capoeira class in a strange land with lots of people.
- Crossing the street in London.
+ Gastropubs.

Well, it's been a long time:
It's the day after my birthday, and since my birthday plans to see Konono No 1 were ruined by circumstances provided in part by work I am taking the day off! Here's some stuff:
*
m0xiee and I are looking for a house in Salem.
* I found a really great used record store in Salem and picked a huge pile of stuff, including bootleg Peter Gabriel records and some Baby Ford stuff. The clerk said they had two back rooms that I could check out too. :)
* Went new record shopping at an overpriced clothing store in Allston. Meh but it doesn't have the problem that Satellite did with super old records scratched to hell. Bought a lot there too.
* My work laptop is finally in. I am now running a MacBook Pro with Parallels for Windows and Linux necessities. I couldn't get the Linux VM to build our code base before the release engineer went off to his Italian honeymoon, so that will have to wait.
* I am going to buy a Wiimote today and get it to do things with my computer.
* I may also look for a tent as a present.
* DEMF became an impossibility after my friend dropped out so I'm going to Mutek. Unfortunately Mr Oizo and Ricardo Villalobos have cancelled :( At least this time I can go see Rhythm and Sound without getting drenched!
* I am very interested in this new Akai EWI4000S wind synth but nobody around here has a demo model I can try! Dang.

- My Overheard in New York book as a prize for winning a headline contest came in the mail yesterday. I have made it 20 pages in and have dog-eared almost every single one. Guests to my house will now have some very entertaining bathroom reading experiences.
- I finished No Logo and started Satanic Verses.
- I bought some new records at the store on Friday! I forget what they were, but I'll remember when I get home and actually have a chance to give them a proper spin.
- I'm playing at Slow Motion Sundays in two weeks with
electrocreep and
forced_nature so come out and lounge, and maybe nod your head a little to my new records and maybe some old ones too. And buy drinks.
- That same night is also the Zer0 G 5th anniversary party at the Phoenix Landing which I will be bouncing between.
- I have a monster ham sandwich for lunch. It has muenster cheese, too.

Sage Francis is apparently playing at Coachella this year.
(1) He had a show on WRIU long long ago
(2) The computer his producer used to make promos spent a month in my bedroom while I tried to track down a replacement motherboard for less than $300 (needed a p3 with onboard scsi or we'd have to buy new parts, so it wasn't worth it)
(3) this isn't bragging about my connections, cause those don't exist. call it hometown (or state or college or whatever) pride.

ARTICLE THE FIRST
Elephant Man is playing at Lupo's at the Strand on March 7! That is a Saturday! Woooooo!
ARTICLE THE SECOND
I bought a copy of Mamoru Oshii's Avalon today. Who wants to watch it?
ARTICLE THE THIRD
HYDROGEN ECONOMY TONIGHT! WRIU 90.3 FM at midnight eastern time OR YOU CAN LISTEN ON THE WEB (again, hurray!) WITH (some) SHOUTCAST CLIENTS here
. We've had some problems with iTunes but Mint Audio works fine. MacAMP Lite and XMMS work as well. No idea about WinAMP, but apparently nobody's been complaining about broken-ness.
ARTICLE THE FOURTH
God I need to buy some new records. I have decided that I really like dancehall and dub and thus I need more cause I have none. I'm off to Skippy White's, Armageddon, and/or that place on Wickenden (what's the name? I ferget)

i was bumming around the URI student union and what did I see? on mtv, there was some stupid crap about britney spears going from nightclub to nightclub doing short performances.
they showed her in avalon, formerly the limelight, where they used to have GOOD music like ken ishii and joey beltram and jeff mills.
BOO!
also some dude was bragging about heading into a dorm with a mask on and going around stealing shit. FUQR
that's it for grousing. i just watched the victoria's secret fashion show with
m0xiee and that was awfully fun :)
that is all!

i would make brute-style matrix-themed propaganda.
like: HAVE A UNIFORM UNIFORM and show the human farms
etc. etc.
Maybe I will put the "All praise the Machine" in my sig files. I know it freaks out J7, and that can only be good.
Also J Majik plays at Elements on Thursday night. That's tomorrow! Holy moly, maybe I'll go! Maybe not.

new 80GB hard drive arrives in two days!
I am debating whether to copy everything over or just rebuild Gentoo from scratch (since I mangled my package DB long ago)
Actually, I guess I will do this:
-install new drive
-rebuild gentoo crap from stage 2 or 3 (fuck that build from stage 1 shit)
-copy over user data and other files
-get one of these or something similar because I will one day have a PowerBook G4. Really.

Malcolm McLaren tries his hand at Game Boy music and attempts to portray it as THE future, not A future. Kick his ass.
A common epithet against fanboys is "If Supastah DJ Duke Nukem released a mix CD of fart noises you'd buy it." It appears that Autechre have been busy perfecting this business progressively since 1996.
In other news I picked up some stuff at Newbury Comics recently:
Autechre - Tri Repetae++ (i do like incunabula, honest)
Aphex Twin - 26 Remixes for Cash
Front 242 - Pulse
Dieselboy - Invid Remixes
There's a Planet X order on the way with two Laibach records (well, more like 3: WAT and the Tanz Mit Laibach remixes), two UR records (Aquanauts and Orlando Voorn), and the new LFO!

my new keyboard stand came in REAL fast.
it's one of those nifty Apex stands.
I don't have a picture, so let me describe it:
it's a tall triangular column that slopes away from you, with a mic boom and two sets of arms for holding stuff .
i've always wanted one of these, and since it makes no sense to buy a wind controller for the fs1r yet since i don't know how to use it, i got this instead and i'll save up for the wx5 and maybe get it after christmas.
also brought the ttx to get fixed today. i hope it's ok :(

I went to the Volume Productions picnic at Slater Park this afternoon with
m0xiee and maybe some other LJ users. We had a pretty good time, although it was a little worrisome when the park police took notice of the generator and large speakers. The officer took a look at the permit and left, so I assume there was no problem.
I talked with DJ Rebel for quite a bit about music, and he pretty much told me that nobody likes hard techno in New England, but jungle and breaks go over pretty well. Looks like it's time to change my buying patterns. Funky Detroit-style stuff goes over well, but the most popular is jungle, breaks, hard house, and deep house.
You can pretend electro = breaks maybe. I hope so.
Also, Rebel says he would like to come down and play on the show again! Huzzah! I'm hoping October 10th is a good date, since that's the same night Mr. Matt and La Femme Nikita are playing on J7's show right before mine.

i'm listening to this audience recording of the underworld performance in nyc from last october.
the quality is really low but if you tweak the eq a LOT, you can get a pretty good listen.
well, about 2:45 into the recording, right at the end of a fantastic take of cowgirl/rez, this guy starts saying stuff about how 8 years ago he heard this song in a club and the dj wouldn't tell him who the fuck did the song.
maybe i'm a sap, but i like hearing about stuff like that.

Man, reading through jazz reviews makes me feel like I don't know anything about music.
For a moment I felt like I should get to know jazz backwards and forwards but after a pause, I realize that this is not the case.
I like being excited by the Bad Plus, and not just mildly impressed at some new brats. I also like thinking that Tool and Peter Gabriel are the only rock musicians worth paying attention to.
Man, I 'm starving. Gotta eat more than 3 bowls of cereal for breakfast.

Yesterday, I got some old computer junk from my uncle. He had a HUGEtower case with a 16MHz 386 inside. Top of the line video card from 1992 (!) and a hard drive (dunno how big)
He also gave me his old Palm IIIe which might be useful.
My boss gave me an old SCSI DVD reader that he wasn't using AND a record order came in today.

My roommate lost her house keys and has been climbing up through the laundry chute for the past TWO WEEKS!

Tonight I went to the club where I first got my start in the rave scene: a night called Energy put on by Volume Productions at a skanky little place in Providence called The Living Room. I haven't been there in about four years. Tonight happened to feature Omino, a friend of mine from school, so a bunch of us EMA people went up to support him. He actually did a pretty good job, taking a few people away from local superstar Venom's crowd. If you were there, I was the guy with the black hat and the blue ESDJCO shirt (support your local disc jockey) who wasn't dancing.
We all got copies of Venom's GHETTO BOOTY mixtape, which is predictably CHEESY AS FUCK. NICE.
It was nifty going out to listen to techno with a bunch of people I see on a regular basis. Too bad it took me four years of college to actually meet any of these guys. I hope I can stick around them a while after graduation.
Speaking of, I got a job offer today from a Rhode Island web design company I've worked for on-and-off for the past six years. Looks like they have a full-time position available and they're doing some new nifty stuff. This way, I can stick around Rhode Island, live with my folks for a while, pay off my debts, and save up for grad school. (and buy some fucking Technics finally (or maybe those fancy TTX1s))
